The Multihull Studio

60' Trimaran

60' trimaran in composite.

This 60' trimaran was first designed in 1992. It was probably the first trimaran anywhere designed in 3D CADD and it was also probably the first trimaran with its laminates designed with FEA. Many of the features that were unique to the design then are considered good standard practice now. Of course the design has been continuously updated since it was begun. The actual construction of unit #1 varied somewhat from the design.

Hulls are foam/glass and the beams are foam/carbon. The mast is rotating. The original design was to have twin outboard motors, but a version with an inboard diesel is also available.

Inside find a generous stateroom aft with queen size berth, head and storage closets. Ahead of that is a systems area with water heater, panel, freezer and refr. Ahead of the companion steps is a nav station on port and the galley on stbd. Amidships across from the galley is sit-down seating for 6 on port. In the main beam there are a pair of single berths. Ahead of the main beam is the rest of crew quarters and all the way forward is sail storage. This tri is capable of blistering performance, but it can also take a whole family across an ocean.

Beam: 44'-6" (13.56 m)
Draft: 2'-0"/12'-6" (.61/3.8 m)
